 Beehive Huts
The more than 2000 year old ring fort Dunbeg is situated near Ventry on Dingle Peninsula. Just a bit further on the road, at Fahan, there is a significant settlement consisting of so-called beehive huts. These are houses made of stone blocks put together by corbelling technique. Their origin is wrapped in mystery, but it is suggested that they were homes of the Iron Age population and later on the Christian hermits. The foggy dew over the hills gave us a sensation of "Ireland's soft weather" as we gazed at the grey water of Dingle Bay. It was the same weather as when I came here the first time. The grandeur is once more somewhat lost. The Dingle Peninsula doesn't yet want to reveal its secrets to me.
