Dingle
Dingle is Europe 's westernmost town. It is also the name of the peninsula that points right into the Gulf Stream.Photo: Oliver Cromwell. Click picture for enlargement. The armies of Cromwell destroyed Dingle at the middle of the 17th century. The town had supported the Catholic King Charles I and his pact between English and Irish Catholics. A third of Ireland 's population died during Cromwell's war on the island. Hundreds of thousands were compulsory transferred or deported to the Caribbean. The puritan Oliver Cromwell incarnates all the cruel violence that Britain has flung over Ireland all the way since the 17th century until the Independence, i.e. for almost 400 years.
