 The Burren
On one hand the Burren is the most barren area you may think of. On the other hand, the landscape is abode for many different plants. The climate and the ground conditions make Medi-terranean plants dwell together with those of alpine origin. And everywhere there are stones. Many stones that have been erected into walls, pulled together by hard working people and formed into corrals - sometimes executed as forced labour when the Englishmen impelled the Irish to work for allowance. Stone is for sure a natural asset the Irish were allowed to keep. |
