 Kylermore Abbey
Connemara is an area which interior is characterized by moors, rising heights, lakes and streams lined with vivid verdure. The main road N59 goes through Roundstone, with its bodhran-makers, via Clifden at the Twelve Bens Mountain, further on to Kylermore Abbey. Here we stopped and walked about this present-day monastery and boarding school for girls, situated on a spot with a very specific history. Kylermore Abbey is enchantingly positioned close to a lake with the main building mirrored in the water. This makes the monastery one of the most photographed subjects in the Irish republic. The name Kylermore is of Gaelic origin: Coill Mor - "large forest".
