	County Donegal provides you with complex scenery. In one day you may see mountains, peat bogs, grassy lowlands, dramatic cliffs, sand dunes and sculpted rocks. We drove along the scenic route called Fanad Head Drive. Nature changed around each bend of the road. Grianan of Alieach is a stone ring-fort from which the ruling clan of Ulster, the O'Neill's, could scout the surrounding countryside, such as the Fanad and Inishowen peninsulas. The clan of O'Neill ruled between the 5th and the 12th century. Some archaeologists suggest that druids built the fort more than 2000 years ago. The name means "stone palace of the sun." The architecture of the ring-fort inspired the construction of Church of St Aengus. Not only the shape, but also the acoustic quality, was implemented in this award-winning architectonic jewel.
