The
greatest pharaoh of them all was utterly possessed by the glamour of his
own power 
and
beauty. Ramses II left gigantic statues of himself all over Egypt, from
Abu Simbel in the South to Memphis in the North. If the original statues
were not sufficient enough, he had his predecessors' cartouches carved away
from the old statues and his own was put in place. I wonder if any other
human ever has believed himself standing closer to God.The
mighty Ramses II had his death temple Ramesseum constructed in order to
impress posterity. He demanded perfection when construction workers and
artists created and decorated his temple.
