We
arrived at Giza when the sun had almost reached its highest point. The warm,
dry
desert wind wais full of fine-grained sand, which penetrated our clothes
and covered our skin. The Atmosphere wais full of dust and converted the
sunshine into haze. The lack of contrast between sky, desert and pyramids
made it hard to take photos.Giza
is a desert plateau close to Cairo on the West Bank of the Nile. The Sphinx,
the
immortal guardian with a lion body and a human face, has greeted the sunrise
for more than 4 500 years. Maybe his face is Pharaoh Chephren's, he who
built the second biggest pyramid in Giza. We will never know that for sure.
But we know for sure that many earthly, mortal gods stopped in front of
his greatness: Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Napoleon, among others.
