Double Names

Karpaz is the peninsula of the doubled named villages. Every village has a Turkish and a Greek name. Before the war in 1974 Karpaz had a mixed populationDipkarpaz (Rizokárpaso) of Turk- and Greek Cypriots, in some cases resident in ethnical coherent villages, in other cases in mixed ones. Most of the Greek Cypriots fled south during and after the war, but there are still Greek Cypriots living in Karpaz, for example in the mixed village of Sipahi (Greek name: Ayia Triás). In this village there are also Greek speaking Turks from the mainland.
