The White Tower Turkish prisoners. Bragadino was tortured and flayed and his skin was sent around the Mediterranean Sea as a warning lesson. The Ottomans renamed Bastion Ravelin to Akkule in memory of the Venetian capitulation. The word ak is Turkish for white and kule means tower. A fixed bridge replaced the drawbridge, since there was no longer any threat of an assault from the inland. |
