A Rejected Relative

When I first came to Famagusta in 1973 the tourism prospered, but the income mainly landedFamagusta in Greek Cypriot pockets. The Turk Cypriots where confined to their enclave behind the walls of Old City. Many Turk Cypriots worked at the hotels and pubs in Varosha. The war in 1974 smashed the tourist business in Famagusta. The world has developed the economical and political relations to the Greek Cypriot part of the island. At the same time tourist agencies have boycotted North Cyprus that stays in the shade as a rejected relative who has broken a strong taboo.
