The Forbidden City

The Turkish army advanced some miles south of Famagusta, but then they stopped, and the island's division was an obvious fact. The Greek Cypriot Varosha was never repopulated again, the district was closed and it's now a ghost city with bombed hotels, shops and houses. The district is a forbidden area, guarded by the Turkish army. Varosha is used as a pawn in the game when the Turk Cypriots negotiate with the Greek Cypriots. When the Greek Cypriot nationalists made their coup d'état they started a process, which lead to the partition of the island. They should have listened to a Greek Cypriot proverb: "A fool throws a stone into the sea and a hundred wise men cannot pull it out."
